Description : This huge book (1288 pages) contains most facets of active noise and vibration control, from a collection of their own research at the University of Adelaide, and from others. It is written for all those involved in the active noise and vibration control industry and research. It covers fundamental concepts, and explains the pitfalls of the practical systems such as reliability and stability of control systems. It covers control of sound in ducts, enclosures, active vibration control, electronic controller design.

Description : This book is a must have if you do active noise control. It covers the physics of cancellation, impedance control, basics of digital signal processing, filtering, control theory, and many research findings from their own work and from others in the field. There are plenty of derivations of the physics behind the phenemona, and lots of practical information. The appendix has really useful information on signal processing and control theory, that I have used countless times. There are a couple of typo's in the book, but then so does every book.
Readers should note that there is another book, by Chris Fuller, "Active Control of Vibration", that I would consider a companion book.

Description : I think of Fuller's book as a duo with "Active Control of Sound", by Nelson and Elliot. You can't control noise without taking into account vibration. The book covers basic material on vibrations, to the most advanced topics on current research. There are discussions on control of waves in structures, the active isolation of vibrations, the use of distribusted strain actuators and sensors and the active control of structurally radiated sound. The feedforward control of deterministic and random disturbances in these systems, in addition to the more conventional work on modal feedback control, are covered in detail. The principles of the transducers used as actuators and sensors for such control strategies are also given an in-depth description.
Perhaps the most interesting part of the book, I found was the discussion on active structural acoustic control (ASAC). The research findings on ASAC show that it is not necessary to minimize vibration of a plate or shell, to minimize the radiated noise. It turns out that by allowing the system to vibrate in particular modes, that the radiated noise is less than if the controller tried to minimize the vibration of the structure. The reason is that the radiated acoustic modes from the structure tend to cancel each other.

Description : This is a short book that provides a basic introduction to the field of active noise control. The author uses physical examples to convey concepts, without too much mathematical detail. If you want a book with mathematical rigour, see his huge book, "Active Control of Noise and Vibration," Hansen and Snyder.
This book covers basic acoustics, perception of sound, passive noise control, digital systems, adaptive controllers, active control of sound in free and enclosed spaces, active control of sound in ducts, digital control systems, adaptive algorithms in active control systems.
